Amélie

Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen) directs this magical fable, which has been a tremendous box office hit in France. Amelie has always been shy with a pronounced taste for life's small pleasures. Early one morning, her life changes forever. She discovers an old box of childhood treasures hidden beneath her floorboards, anonymously returns it to its rightful owner, and watches from a distance as his life is transformed by the discovery. And thus begins her quest: a series of inventive plans to straighten out other people's lives - mostly for the better (if they've earned it) and occasionally for the worse (if they deserve it). Now the question is, will she have the courage to do for herself what she has done for others. The radiant Audrey Tautou, compared to Audrey Hepburn, gives a star making performance in this unique new film.
